World Premiere: Intercom Dr. Leitner Delivers First Fully Mobile 400-Meter Speed Skating Ice Rink for Milano Cortina 2026
The state-of-the-art, fully mobile speed skating oval made its debut at the Milano Rho exhibition and sets new standards for sustainability and temporary sports infrastructure.
For the first time, Intercom Dr. Leitner and its brand REALICE – Ice Rink Technologies – have delivered a 400-meter mobile ice surface for Olympic speed skating competitions. The facility, which includes 287 km of piping for ice production, was successfully installed at Fiera Milano Rho and represents a technological breakthrough in temporary large-scale sports venues.
Olympic Ice Quality on a Mobile Rink for the First Time
The rink installed in Milan enables Olympic-level ice quality on a modular, mobile platform. The advanced ice technology provides consistent, fast ice conditions and meets the highest standards of the international speed skating elite. Its modular design ensures flexibility, rapid installation, and high energy efficiency.
During an initial test event – the ISU Speed Skating Junior World Cup – the facility was successfully tested under competition conditions. After two days of competition, 43 Seasonal Bests and 17 personal bests were recorded – a clear indication of the fast ice in Milan.
Sustainability as a Guiding Principle
“Sustainability, energy management, and perfect ice conditions for athletes were the central requirements of the organizing committee,” emphasized Christof Leitner, CEO of Intercom Dr. Leitner. After the 2026 Winter Olympics, the entire facility will be dismantled, allowing the exhibition space to be immediately reused – a significant signal for responsible, resource-efficient sports infrastructure.
